Big Picture Gallery will present a documentary about painter Henri Matisse and will lead kids in an art project.

June 21: Celebrating Make Music Day

West Music will bring the international day of making music to Hancher. Make Music Day activities for all will include drumming, ukulele, harmonica, and an instrument “petting zoo.” Open to students of all ages and abilities.

June 14: Celebrating Dance

Nolte Academy of Dance will present a Q&A with Wendy Whelan, a former principal dancer with New York City Ballet and subject of the documentary Restless Creature: Wendy Whelan. Open to students of all ages.

June 7: Celebrating the Written Word

Batsheva Dance Company

American Ballet Theatre

A young boy overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirious dream, filled with sugary heroes who come to his rescue. A dollop of delightful whimsy for the entire family, featuring costumes and sets from the mind of pop surrealist visionary Mark Ryden.

Kaia Kater

Of African-Caribbean descent and born in Québec, Kaia Kater has immersed herself in Canadian folk music as well as the music of Appalachia. With superb banjo skills, a jazz inflected voice, and a gift for song craft, she respects tradition while pushing forward.
