You can purchase tickets in a variety of ways: online 24/7, by phone at (319) 335-1160 or 800-HANCHER, or in person from the Hancher Box Office!

Beware of ticket resellers and only buy Hancher tickets from us! Unauthorized ticket resellers purchase tickets at face value from official sources with the intent of selling them for profit on a secondary marketplace. Hancher cannot guarantee the validity of tickets that are purchased through a reseller or unofficial site.

  • Check: Please make checks payable to the Hancher Box Office.
  • Cash: Cash payments are accepted for in-person purchases.

Please note the box office is closed during University of Iowa holidays.

Can I purchase tickets at a performance? Yes! The Hancher Box Office is open at least one hour prior to each performance.

Where can I pick up my tickets? Pre-purchased tickets can be picked up prior to a performance at Will Call. If an event is not at Hancher, you may pick up your tickets at the event location. New tickets may be purchased, if available, at the performance location.

Does the Hancher Box Office sell more than just Hancher tickets? Yes! The Hancher Box Office sells tickets to Hancher events, Performing Arts At Iowa events, and events presented by other sponsors such as the College of Law or Nolte Academy. If you are unsure if you are in the right place to purchase your tickets, please contact the Hancher Box Office.

Why are there extra fees on my total cost? Ticket fee revenue supports our ongoing operations including our credit card processing expenses.

  • 3% credit card fee for each ticket that is $20 or less. No 3% credit card fee if this ticket is paid with cash or check.
  • 12% facility fee for each ticket that is more than $20.
  • EVENT-SPECIFIC FEES: Some performances have additional event-specific fees.

How do I know what category of ticket I can purchase? Our ticket categories are broken down by presenter.

  • For Hancher performances: Student & Youth tickets are for students enrolled at any college/university or for youth 17 and younger. Adult tickets are for everyone else. Children aged one year and older must have a ticket.
  • For Performing Arts At Iowa performances: College student tickets are for students enrolled at any college or university; UI student tickets are for students enrolled at the University of Iowa; Youth tickets are for children ages 17 and younger; Senior citizen tickets are for adults ages 65 and older; Adult tickets are for everyone else.

DISCOUNTS ON TICKETS

There are a variety of ways to receive discounts on tickets. Please note that discounts and policies are determined by the presenter of the performance. 

  • Our annual Hancher is for Hawkeyes sale offers UI students deep discounts on many upcoming Hancher performances! This sale happens at the beginning of each academic year, kicking off at our Fall Welcome Concert.
  • Hancher offers discounts for college students (University of Iowa and other colleges) and for children ages 17 and younger for most events. College students must present a valid university ID card at all events when using one of these discounted tickets. Each college student may bring a guest at the student rate.

Discounted group prices are available for many performances when a block of tickets is purchased at the same time with a single payment. At the time of ordering, a 25% deposit is required to reserve your block of seats. Final payment is due one month before the chosen performance.

Organized groups of 15 or more may purchase tickets at 10% off the regular price to many Hancher events.

A flat $20 handling charge applies to all group orders. A 3% credit card processing fee applies to all orders paid with credit card.

Group discounts are not available via paper order form.

GIFT CERTIFICATES

Gift certificates for tickets to Hancher performances may be purchased in any amount from the Hancher Box Office, by phone or in person. The box office is open 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Please note: Hancher Box Office gift certificates can only be used for purchasing tickets.

Gift certificates from the Hancher Showcase may be purchased in any amount from the Showcase, by phone or in person. Please note: Hancher Showcase gift certificates can only be used for showcase items.

Gift certificates are not available for use in the Stanley Café.

TICKET POLICIES

All sales are final. Tickets are non-refundable.

Ticket exchanges are possible only when there are multiple dates and times of the same production, and seating is available. All ticket exchanges must be completed 24 hours prior to your original performance date. Lost tickets may not be exchanged.

Tickets can be returned for credit towards another Hancher performance. This credit never expires and must be requested 24 hours prior to the performance.

Tickets may be returned as a donation. Return your tickets to the Hancher Box Office 24 hours prior to your performance. The value of the returned tickets will be acknowledged by the UI Center for Advancement as a tax-deductible contribution. Lost tickets may not be donated.

In general, performances will not be canceled or postponed due to inclement weather. Refunds will not be offered if the performance is held. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, information will be posted on Hancher's website and Facebook page. Ticket holders will be notified directly by email.

You may request a reprint of lost or destroyed tickets through the Hancher Box Office. Reprinted tickets will be held at will call for pickup at the performance.

Patrons can choose physical tickets (mailed or Will Call) or electronic tickets via email for use on mobile devices.

24-48 hours before the performance, etickets will be sent as a PDF attachment on an Order Confirmation email.

COLLEGE STUDENT TICKET INFORMATION

Please note that student discounts and policies are determined by the presenter of the performance.

For Hancher performances, college students enrolled in a degree program at any college or university may attend a performance using a student ticket. Anyone may purchase college student tickets, but the college student themselves must attend the performance and present their valid student ID with their ticket at the door. Each college student may also purchase a second ticket for a guest at the student rate.

For University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts, School of Music, and Department of Dance productions, only UI students may attend using a UI Student ticket. Anyone may purchase UI Student tickets, but each student ticket must be accompanied by a UI student with their valid UI Student ID at the performance. Students at other colleges and universities are NOT entitled to UI student prices for these performances, but do receive a separate college discount. A college student may not also purchase a second ticket for a guest at the student rate.
