Celebrating the University of Iowa and its steadfast commitment to cutting edge art-making, Hancher Auditorium will host a weeklong residency led by Iowa-native and UI alumnus, percussionist, author, and conductor Steven Schick.
Schick, who celebrates his 70th birthday in 2026, has championed contemporary percussion music by commissioning or premiering more than one hundred-fifty new works. The most important of these have become core repertory for solo percussion. He was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2014.
During his time in Iowa City, Schick will lead master classes, give lectures and a recital, and perform with the sinfonietta from the School of Music’s celebrated Center for New Music. Percussionists will travel to Iowa City from across the Midwest for a performance of the 15th anniversary of John Luther Adams’ INUKSUIT on Sunday, October 6 in Iowa City’s City Park.
All events part of the Steven Schick residency are free and open to the public. No ticket required.
