Students in seven Iowa communities will confront cyberbullying through art as the University of Iowa’s Hancher and Iowa City’s Working Group Theatre collaborate to present Out of Bounds to middle and elementary schoolers in November. Pre- and post-performance activities have been developed with faculty from the College of Public Health to integrate the show into an ongoing bullying  curriculum.

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present mandolinist Chris Thile on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City. Thile's performance will feature music by J.S. Bach, and he will also play contemporary music, including some of his own compositions.

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present Lynne Arriale, Carla Cook, and Grace Kelly on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 and 9:30 p.m. at the Mill in downtown Iowa City. The performances are part of the popular Club Hancher series of events. The concerts are titled “You Know How I Feel,” and will honor the music of Nina Simone, Abbey Lincoln, and Joni Mitchell.

Cylar Goss-Netser got a feel for carpentry alongside her own father and stepdad Tuesday at Hancher Auditorium. Goss-Netser, 15, a sophomore at Clear Creek Amana High School, was among 15 students from Johnson and surrounding counties who shadowed skilled trades workers on construction sites on the University of Iowa campus.

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the Brentano String Quartet on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Riverside Recital Hall (405 N. Riverside Drive) in Iowa City. The concert is a collaboration with the UI String Quartet Residency Program.

Las Cafeteras were named by the community from which they rose—a fact that very plainly gets at the heart of what this band’s music is about. The members of this conjunto first came together in East L.A. in various activist spaces. A few met in college classes, a few on the streets during protests, and others in their roles as organizers. “We all had one thing in common,” Flores began to say during an interview with LatiNation about their formation. He quickly corrected himself: “Or two things in common: one, the love for Justice, and two, the love of music. That’s what brought us together.”
