Presented in collaboration with Iowa Percussion at the University of Iowa School of Music
In celebration of Steve Schick’s residency, Iowa Percussion will present a gala concert. The performance will feature Edgard Varese’s seminal work Ionisation, conducted by Schick. In addition, Schick will conduct the best-known piece by his Iowa teacher and mentor Thomas L. Davis In the 1960s, Davis' composition, Mau Mau Suite, became one of the most performed percussion pieces worldwide among youth ensembles.
Iowa Percussion will also perform works that have been noteworthy to the ensemble over the last 66-years, premiering a new work by alumnus Peter Naughton titled Eroica (a contemporary reimagination of Beethoven’s Symphony #3).
