Celebrating the University of Iowa and its steadfast commitment to cutting edge art-making, Hancher Auditorium hosts a week long residency led by Iowa-native and UI alumnus, percussionist, author, and conductor Steven Schick.
Schick, who celebrated his 70th birthday in 2024, has championed contemporary percussion music by commissioning or premiering more than one hundred-fifty new works. The most important of these have become core repertory for solo percussion. He was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2014.
During his time in Iowa City, Schick will lead master classes, give lectures and a recital, and perform concerts with School of Music’s exceptional percussion ensemble, Iowa Percussion led by Dan Moore, and the sinfonietta from the Center for New Music led by David Gommper. To cap off the engagement, percussionists will travel to Iowa City from across the Midwest for a performance of the 15th anniversary of John Luther Adams’ INUKSUIT on Sunday, October 6 in Iowa City’s City Park.
All events part of the Steven Schick residency are free and open to the public. No ticket required.
