Part of Hancher's 53rd season

The beloved master musician comes to Iowa to reflect on a brilliantly consequential career.

In this special program, Yo-Yo Ma explores music at the center of his musical firmament, pairing it with his thoughts about how it has shaped his thinking about art, human nature, and our ongoing search for meaning. Together, the cellist’s music and words ask us to consider what music is for and how it can guide us on a path towards hope. Hancher is the first stop on Ma’s reflective tour of Iowa.

“I am convinced, with every listen, that his forays into the outer limits of the classical repertory (and beyond) continue to refine what is at once his greatest and rarest gift, one recognized long ago by his peers at Juilliard: transcendence.” – San Francisco Classical Voice
