Dance Auditions for The Joffrey's Nutcracker!

Sunday, September 18, 2016, 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Children and teenagers will dance again with The Joffrey Ballet on the Hancher stage for the preview performances of Christopher Wheeldon’s The Nutcracker. Auditions for local student dancers will be on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Hancher Auditorium.

The deadline for preregistration has passed. Walk-in registrations at Hancher on audition day will be considered.

Audition Schedule
1:30–2:30 | Female dancers ages 7–9, maximum height 4’5” (no minimum height)
2:30–3:15 | Male dancers ages 10–17, maximum height 5’8” (no minimum height)
3:15–5:30 | Female dancers ages 11–18, heights between 5’ & 5’6”
4:15–5:30 | Female dancers ages 10–16, heights between 4’6” & 5’

Attire
Female dancers: Leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes. Hair prepared in a bun prior to the audition.
Male dancers: T-shirt, tights, jazz pants or shorts, ballet shoes.

Photograph and ID
Bring a recent 4x6 headshot (female dancers with hair in a bun). The photo will not be returned.
Bring proof of age (ID, passport, birth certificate, etc.)

Details
Arrive 45 to 60 minutes prior to the audition in your age category. Do not arrive more than one hour prior, please.
Allow time, before the audition, for check-in, height measurement, and assignment of an audition number.
Students must be the minimum age required on the day of the audition. Students younger/older than the required age will not be admitted.
Height and age requirements will be verified prior to admission to an audition. The age and height parameters are strict and dancers who do not fall within the parameters will not be admitted into the audition.
Parents will not be allowed to observe auditions.
Dancers should have ballet training. During the audition, students will be asked to learn and perform Children’s Cast Role steps in groups.
Dancers will be selected based on technical, artistic, and performance ability.
Some dancers may be released from the audition early and others may be asked to stay for additional auditions.

Casting and Rehearsals
Audition results will be sent to the primary email address provided on your audition form.
Casting is at the sole discretion of The Joffrey Ballet; all casting decisions are final.
Rehearsals for the local cast will be held at Nolte Academy of Dance.

 

All members of the cast are expected to commit to attending all scheduled rehearsals, all additional rehearsals in late October/early November, and all tech-week rehearsals in late November.

 

Scheduled Rehearsals (Roles or scenes rehearsed in 30- to 90-minute segments; subject to change.)
Friday, September 23 | 4:00–9:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25 | 1:00–6:00 p.m.
Every Friday, September 30 through November | 4:00–9:00 p.m. (+ TBD rehearsals in late Oct./early Nov.)
