Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory
with special guest Helado Negro
Part of Hancher's Infinite Dream festival
Part of Hancher's 53rd season
A singular, American songwriter continues her artistic journey with a new band in tow.
For over 15 years, Sharon Van Etten has been a creature of evolution, her music moving across modes and styles. Her lyrics evoke atmospheres of turmoil and heartbreak, but there are often nodes of transcendence embedded within. Her latest, self-titled record was conceived with a new band, The Attachment Theory; its sounds court ’80s goth and new wave while keeping Van Etten’s spirit firmly at the core. Helado Negro opens the show with a solo set of music mixing electronics, pop songcraft, and psychedelic textures.
“On Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, the frontwoman surrenders to the rhythm on a stormy, unsettled album centered on groove and mood.” – Pitchfork
“Fronting a brand new band, the singer-songwriter dives into the dark side, with confusion and foreboding creeping through 80s moods, big choruses and fine melodies” – The Guardian
