Trisha Brown Dance Company
Dancing with Bob: Rauschenberg, Brown & Cunningham Onstage
Part of Hancher's 53rd season
In collaboration with the Merce Cunningham Trust and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation
Presented in collaboration with the University of Iowa Department of Dance and School of Art, Art History, and Design
An essential company honors a vital artist in a program also featuring UI dancers.
In celebration of the centennial of iconoclastic American artist Robert Rauschenberg, the Trisha Brown Dance Company performs Dancing with Bob: Rauschenberg, Brown & Cunningham Onstage, featuring two masterpieces with sets and costumes designed by Rauschenberg. Beginning with Trisha Brown’s seminal work Set and Reset (1983) with music by Laurie Anderson, the program also features Merce Cunningham’s Travelogue (1977) with music by John Cage, which hasn’t been performed by a professional company since 1979. Student dancers from the University of Iowa’s Department of Dance will perform Brown’s Foray Forêt (1990).
Two University of Iowa faculty members—Melida Jean Myers and Tony Orrico—are former members of the Trisha Brown Dance Company and will be key collaborators during the company’s time on campus.
PROGRAM:
Trisha BROWN: Set and Reset, performed by Trisha Brown Dance Company
BROWN: Foray Forêt, performed by University of Iowa Department of Dance students and staged by Melinda Jean Myers, University of Iowa assistant professor of dance
Merce CUNNINGHAM: Travelogue, performed by Trisha Brown Dance Company

"Trisha Brown's choreography, as embodied by her remarkable company, operates at the intersection of intellectual inquiry and visceral sensation. Their performances are not merely displays of physical prowess but rather profound explorations of movement's inherent logic and its capacity to reveal the hidden poetry within the everyday." – The New Yorker
