Camille Thurman with the Darrell Green Quartet
Part of Club Hancher
Part of Hancher's 53rd season
Presented in collaboration with the University of Iowa School of Music Jazz Program
A confluence of a powerhouse saxophonist and a top-shelf quartet honors the past and heralds the future.
Saxophonist, vocalist, and composer Camille Thurman was last at Hancher for a Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Christmas concert in 2019. She and master drummer Darrell Green’s quartet thrilled the Iowa City Jazz Festival crowd in 2022. Now, Thurman and the quartet come to Club Hancher to share their captivating blend of innovation and tradition—pushing jazz forward while embracing its roots.
This performance aligns with the first of two visits Thurman will make to work with UI students. She will return to play with the School of Music’s Johnson County Landmark on December 5 in the Voxman Music Building Concert Hall.
“You’re hard-pressed to find rising talents more exciting than Camille Thurman.” – The New York Times
“Imagine if Sarah Vaughan played saxophone like Dexter Gordon. That’s approximately the effect when singer and tenor saxophonist Camille Thurman performs.” – Downbeat Magazine
