Schumann Quartet
Presented in collaboration with University of Iowa String Quartet Residency Program
The Schumann Quartet relishes the connection between artists and audiences. “A work really develops only in a live performance,” the members of the German quartet say. “That is ‘the real thing,’ because we ourselves never know what will happen. On the stage, all imitation disappears, and you automatically become honest with yourself. Then you can create a bond with the audience—communicate with it in music.” The three Schumann brothers—Erik (violin), Ken (violin), and Mark (cello)—and violist Veit Hertenstein bring an abundance of energy and spontaneity to everything they play.
“The Schumann Quartet plays staggeringly well ... [and is] without doubt one of the very best formations among today’s abundance of quartets ... [The quartet impresses] with sparkling virtuosity and a willingness to astonish.” — Süddeutsche Zeitung
