Hancher to announce new Broadway subscription series, new festival, and new season lineup
The University of Iowa’s Hancher Auditorium will offer a new Broadway subscription series for Iowa theater fans as part of its 2023-2024 season. The package will include four hit Broadway shows at a discounted price. Hancher will announce the Broadway lineup on April 12, 2023.
Hancher is also planning a new October festival, Infinite Dream. The multidisciplinary event featuring the talents of visiting international artists as well as students, faculty, and staff from the University of Iowa will debut on October 11, 2023. Initial details will be announced in June.
“Hancher has always taken great pride in offering an eclectic array of artists and performances and we are thrilled to add both a full Broadway subscription series and a multidisciplinary festival to our range of events,” says Hancher executive director Andre Perry. “The Broadway subscription series will bring a dedicated season of touring musicals and plays to our community while the festival, Infinite Dream, will reflect the University of Iowa’s legacy as a leading campus for storytelling across the arts.”
Hancher will announce its full 2023-2024 season of events in July, promising a remarkable collection of artists that will connect with the campus and community.
“The 2023-2024 season will bolster Hancher’s historical strengths across disciplines and styles while pursuing new threads for watching and listening, teaching, and learning as we vault forward into a new era for the organization,” says Hancher programming and engagement director Aaron Greenwald. “We hope, dearly, that patrons new and veteran will join us on this voyage. We can promise a season of performance that will be thrilling, fun, and illuminating.”
“We are building on Hancher’s formidable foundations as we launch the 51st season,” says Perry. “Our programmatic evolution highlights the diversity of experiences available to our campus and community audiences. Our dream is that our program provides an opportunity for every unique community member to find a way to embrace and enjoy the arts.”
Annual donors at the $120 level and above will be eligible to participate in the donor presales. For the Broadway subscription series, the donor period will run from April 17 to April 28; for the full season, the donor period will run from July 17 to July 28.
