Duke Ellington Sacred Music Concerts with Kantorei and Johnson County Landmark
Please join Johnson County Landmark and Kantorei for an exceptionally rare performance of selections from Duke Ellington’s “Sacred Concerts.” This composition is a truly collaborative masterwork which combines elements of jazz, classical music, choral music, spirituals, gospel, blues and dance into a single body of work. Originally composed as three separate concerts (premiered in ’65, ’68 and ’73), this music represents the very first time in jazz history that the traditional divide between the sacred and secular factions of Black music culture was blatantly crossed.
