Part of Hancher's 52nd Season

Presented in collaboration with the International Writing Program and University of Iowa Department of Dance

A time-honored tradition connecting writers from around the world with Department of Dance students.

Every year, the University of Iowa's international Writing Program welcomes 30+ distinguished writers from around the world to our campus and community for a three-month residency. Building from a collaboration that first happened in 2004, every fall these visiting writers connect with students and faculty in the UI Department of Dance to develop a special dance program inspired by literature.

This fall, the writers will join UI dance-makers with new works in performance. They will converse across written, spoken, and artistic languages, but also through a shared creative practice–to put a finger on a meaningful possibility–and give us a feel for it. In partnership with the Hancher Auditorium team, dance professor Jennifer Kayle and International Writing Program fall residency coordinator Shelly Criswell will steward this remarkable, co-creative production.

All are invited to gather with this community of esteemed international writers and UI dance artists to witness where MOVING WOR(L)DS E/MERGE.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Paris Young in advance at (319) 467-4849 or at paris-sissel@uiowa.edu.
