This year marks the 100th anniversary of James Baldwin, who was born on August 2nd, 1924. His achievements as an American writer and critic of our cultural condition remain incredibly poignant in these early decades of the 21st century. Across two distinct reading events, local and visiting writers will share new work inspired by and in conversation with Baldwin’s canon as well as readings from Baldwin’s own texts. World renown, local writers (and UI faculty) Donika Kelly (Tuesday, September 24) and Tisa Bryant (Thursday, September 26) will host these events.
