Part of Hancher's Infinite Dream festival

Music and movement push, pull, and come together in a quirky, thrilling collaboration.

Pianist/composer Conrad Tao and dancer/choreographer Caleb Teicher explore harmonic, rhythmic, and theatrical counterpoints through a striking blend of sound and movement. Built around music both magnificent and idiosyncratic—including works by Bach, Schoenberg, Tatum, Ravel, and others—Counterpoint is threaded together by Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. A cherished piece of the American songbook, Rhapsody in Blue celebrates its centennial in 2024.

“[Counterpoint] demands such a high level of presence and such a close attentiveness to one another ... [T]he interpretation is actually taking flight anew for every single show.” — San Diego Tribune
