"Justly acclaimed as a titanic force at the keyboard," (Cleveland.com) world-renowned pianist Garrick Ohlsson* joins Orchestra Iowa to perform Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg's most famous work, his beloved Piano Concerto. A new work by Iowa-based composer Nancy Hill Cobb, the third Orchestra Iowa Centennial commission, will receive its world premiere. And the Masterworks season concludes with Jean Sibelius's Second Symphony, a magnificent work full of rich colors and sweeping melodies.

*Orchestra Iowa announces last minute soloist change, welcoming pianist George Li in his Orchestra Iowa debut on Sergei Rachmaninoff’s famous Piano Concerto No. 2, May 20-21, 2023. Li steps in to replace pianist Garrick Ohlsson, who was unable to travel due to sudden illness.

George Li rose to fame as the silver medalist of the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, and has since established himself as an artist who combines “staggering technical prowess, a sense of command and depth of expression” (Washington Post). His 2022-23 season includes performances with the leading orchestras of Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and others. In addition to the Tchaikovsky competition, Li was recipient of the 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant, a recipient of the 2012 Gilmore Young Artist Award, and First Prize winner of the 2010 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.
