A capacity crowd heard the band perform with the “wild and crazy guy” for Hancher Auditorium’s gala reopening Sept. 24, 2016. Just shy of two years later, the ensemble — without Martin — is returning to play for a potentially larger crowd in a free concert Sept. 14 on the Hancher Green in Iowa City.

The sensational bluegrass band that helped Steve Martin and Martin Short open the new Hancher Auditorium returns for a free outdoor concert. Honoring the music’s traditions but committed to its present and future as well, the Steep Canyon Rangers will have you up and dancing as they help us welcome students back to campus—and the community to our front yard.
Bring your own dinner and beverages or purchase it from the following food trucks stationed in Hancher's parking lot.

The performance will be followed by fireworks.
Is this a rain or shine concert?
The concert would be cancelled if rain and/or storms could endanger people's safety. The concert would not be moved indoors into Hancher Auditorium. The cancellation would be announced on this webpage and on Hancher's Facebook page.

University of Iowa students are now back on campus for a new academic year.
Just in time, UI's Hancher Auditorium will kickoff its 2018-19 season of amazing musicians, award-winning Broadway shows, legendary symphonies and a long list of entertainment options for students, professors, locals and Iowans from across the state.
With tickets now on sale for the entire season, here are the highlights of what Hancher has to offer in 2018.
