Leslie Odom Jr. had his Broadway debut in 1998 at age 17 in Rent. But his Tony Award-winning portrayal of Aaron Burr— “the damn fool who shot him”—in Hamilton shot him to fame as he and his castmates shined a new light on America’s founding figures. Odom will reflect on his life and career with his charisma, drive, and artistry fully on display.

Due to expected demand for seats, the event will be ticketed.

General admission tickets will be distributed at Hancher Auditorium in the following way:

  • University of Iowa students can pick up two free tickets with their student ID beginning at 10 am on Monday, March 6. A limited number of tickets have been set aside for UI students.

  • Members of the general public can pick up two free tickets beginning at 10 am on Tuesday, March 7.

Tickets will not be available by phone or online.

Doors for the lecture will open at 6:30 pm on March 27. Ticketholders must be seated by 7:15 pm or their seats may be given to those waiting for tickets to become available. Ticketholders will also be asked not to save seats for later arrivals.

ODOM DELIGHTS THE AUDIENCE IN HANCHER APPEARANCE
Daily Iowan - Tuesday, March 28, 2017
On Monday evening, the multi-hyphenate actor-singer Leslie Odom Jr., most famous for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the smash hit musical Hamilton, performed and spoke to a nearly full crowd in Hancher. Odom opened with two jazz-style pieces before outlining his life leading up to and after Hamilton.
Odom: Hamilton 'is all you have to say'
The Gazette - Monday, March 27, 2017
Before stepping on stage Monday at Hancher Auditorium, Leslie Odom Jr. learned the University of Iowa Lecture Committee hosting his appearance had received some calls or letters asking why “that guy” was coming — that guy who was “so mean to Mike Pence.” Odom — after walking the audience through the journey that landed him a lead role in the Broadway blockbuster “Hamilton” and singing several pieces from the show — shared this information with the full house, to widespread chuckles.
