Production Manager

Hancher Auditorium and the Office of Performing Arts & Engagement is seeking to hire a 100% full-time Production Manager.
Step into the spotlight at Hancher Auditorium, a university arts presenter on a thriving arts campus. As our Production Manager, you will serve as an expert production-focused facilitator between Hancher Auditorium and a range of constituents, including visiting artists and companies, faculty and student performers, production colleagues in the academic Performing Arts Production Unit, faculty/staff/student campus partners at-large, student production staff, union laborers, and community members.

Programming and Engagement Specialist

Hancher Auditorium and the Office of Performing Arts & Engagement is seeking to hire a 100% full-time Programming & Engagement Specialist.
Bridge the worlds of visiting artists and university life at Hancher Auditorium, a university arts presenter on a thriving arts campus. As our Programming & Engagement Specialist, you will connect Hancher's annual visiting artist program with the academic and creative community of the University of Iowa. Working in close collaboration with colleagues across Hancher and the Office of Performing Arts & Engagement, UI performing arts departments (Dance, Music, Theatre Arts), campus partners, and visiting artist teams, you will design and deliver engagement experiences that deepen the impact of each residency—and help bring that engagement into broader community view.

Marketing Coordinator

Hancher Auditorium and the Office of Performing Arts & Engagement is seeking to hire a 100% full-time Marketing Coordinator.
In this position, you will help create, develop, support, and execute a variety of marketing and communications tasks to reach target audiences including potential students, staff, and faculty; current members of the university community; and patrons and donors from around the community and beyond. The office leads marketing and communication efforts for the UI’s performing arts campus including Department of Dance, Department of Theatre Arts, Hancher Auditorium, School of Music, and the overall Performing Arts at Iowa brand.
This is a 100%, three-year specified term appointment.

Production Coordinator
Compensation: Anticipated salary will be $45,000–$50,000 with competitive benefits.
Hancher Auditorium is seeking to hire a 100% full-time Production Coordinator to support performances, residencies, and special events. This role bridges Production and Programming & Engagement teams, coordinating logistics, schedules, and resources to ensure seamless experiences for artists and audiences.
Key responsibilities include maintaining artist-directed advance documentation for residencies, special events, and festivals; supporting operations and programming for festivals and multi-event projects; and leading run of show for select events. The role also provides flexible support for auxiliary engagement activities requiring production or logistical coordination.
Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, collaborative, and experienced in live events or the performing arts, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
This is a 3-year, specified term position.

USHERS / UI STUDENTS & NONSTUDENTS
Starting wage: $14.00/hour
Ushers play a vital role in ensuring all Hancher Auditorium guests have a positive event experience. We are looking for individuals with a ready smile, excellent communication skills, and the ability to solve problems. Ushers will perform duties such as: greeting and directing patrons, scanning tickets, and helping patrons to their seats while providing information and assistance. Work hours fluctuate with the event schedule but are primarily nights and weekends. Ushers generally average 5 to 10 hours per week. The beginning rate of pay is $14.00 per hour. All new ushers are required to go through approximately 5 hours of paid training.

STAGEHANDS / UI STUDENTS
Starting wage: $14.00/hour
The Hancher Production department is seeking part-time stagehands to provide labor for a variety of artists that are presented throughout the year.
The Hancher production department employs around 35–40 student stagehands to provide labor for a variety of artists that are presented throughout the year. Stagehands work to set up for performances; provide support during rehearsals, sound checks, and performances; and help to strike all equipment and restore the space afterwards. Stagehands learn how to work with various types of theatrical lighting, video, and sound equipment. The production team will train and test all students on procedures at the beginning of employment. Additional tasks may include providing security backstage, monitoring stage door access, and selling merchandise.
Typically, work in the Hancher production department is not regular, weekly hours. We work when there are shows. Students may not be working every week. Work shifts are often during the evening and into the late night hours on weekdays and weekends. Stagehands will need to commit to working a minimum amount of shifts each month to remain on staff.

BOX OFFICE CASHIERS / UI STUDENTS
Starting wage: $14.00/hour
Hancher Box Office cashiers provide friendly, knowledgeable service to customers interested in attending Hancher performances and productions presented by Performing Arts at Iowa . Cashiers work a regular weekly schedule in the box office, as well as a fluctuating schedule of evening and weekend shifts that revolve around the event schedule. We prize great communication skills; experience with customer service, computers, and cash handling; and an interest and knowledge of the arts on campus.
