America’s 250th anniversary animates the program for an evening of music with a bold quartet.
The members of Verona Quartet—who will participate in a robust residency with UI School of Music Students—represent four different nations, but their singular approach and unanimity of purpose in both musical and cultural cooperation quickly earned the group a well-earned reputation for bold interpretive strength and electrifying performances.
The ensemble’s Song Book program was created in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States and explores the richness of American musical identity through works that employ the string quartet as a singing voice. The concert will be presented in the beautiful recital hall in the Voxman Music Building.
Program: SONG BOOK
Samuel BARBER: String Quartet in B minor
Stephen HARTKE: Night Songs for a Desert Flower
