The JACK Quartet—a new-music ensemble with a long history of teaching, coaching, and performing at the University of Iowa—opens Fifty for the Future with a wide-ranging set of selections from the project.

inti figgis-vizueta offers fleeting moments of order arising from ambient noise. Mark Applebaum channels Dadaist wit, while Onutė Narbutaitė invites patient contemplation. Barry Guy draws on Samuel Beckett's final poem, Missy Mazzoli builds from harmonics to an ecstatic chorale, and Stephan Thelen creates a musical world of layered meters.

Christopher Otto, violin
Austin Wulliman, violin
John Pickford Richards, viola
Jay Campbell, cello
