An “Irreplaceable Dance Treasure” (Dance Heritage Coalition), King reigns in contemporary ballet.
In 1982, Alonzo King launched LINES Ballet in San Francisco to perform his choreography—work he calls “thought structures.” Since then, he has been lauded as a pioneer of contemporary ballet and collected a host of honors for his contributions to dance. His company beautifully brings together classical ballet technique and pure athleticism in the service of King’s meditative, emotional, and sometimes spiritual explorations through movement. The program features music by two brilliantly exploratory musicians—esperanza spalding and Alice Coltrane.
